After the success of our first iPhone application (search for ‘Splashpath’) we’re developing the next phase of our sports and fitness platform.

We want someone who enjoys the responsibility of taking the lead, and can develop independently without supervision. You’ll enjoy a great level of freedom to influence the development of the platform.

Essentials
• 1-2 years commercial experience with Ruby on Rails (version 2.x and 3.x)
• Strong knowledge in front-end development technologies (HTML/CSS/Javascript(jQuery)/Ajax)
• Good understanding of MySQL and fairly complex SQL queries
• Experience with Mac OS X and Linux environments and ability to set up web servers (Apache/Nginx) and enable deployment with Capistrano
• Ability to solve problems and find the best solutions for them
• Knowledge of OAUTH and 3rd party APIs (Especially Facebook)
• Experience developing Web services API and work with iPhone apps

Good-to-haves

• Experience with making sites compatible across browsers (including IE6)
• Working with version control systems (Subversion and Git)
• TDD/BDD skills (not required, but nice to have)
• Interest in sports and fitness is a plus
• Basic iPhone/Android development knowledge/skills.

In exchange, we will offer you a fun and interesting place to work in a start-up-type work environment.

Salary: £32K – £38K depending on experience.

Taking a short break from working on the website we’ve produced some promotional materials for participating sites to use. We’re gonna run off about 500 of each to send to the early Splashpath adopters..

We’ve also been busy bee’s.. working in the gorgeous sun…

What have we been making? .. well we’ve almost put the finishing touches to an automated process of pulling in Pool times from .csv files. What does this mean? – Well for a start a pool operator can export their existing timetable from excel and load it straight into Splashpath. We’ve just done this for Everyone Active. It’s a great way to hit the ground running. The Operator still needs to login to do a bit of customisation. You can see the timetable below doesn’t yet have descriptions..

Oh and last weekend I had a BIG reminder why swimming is so awesome. On what seemed like the sunniest weekend of the year I had a couple of amazing days at London Fields Lido, followed by drinks and a picnic with friends. Even managed to get a tan by the poolside. Started this week feeling so relaxed.. thanks GLL!

It was quite refreshing to sharpen some rusty research skills, looking through NHS strategy documents and doing some homework on where similar IT systems to Splashpath have had positive impacts on other Industries.
